Hi there,

If you want to log still images (Like a webcam), then you may want to
use a capture card such as the bt878 chipset (?if memory serves) based
capture cards.  I have used cards from the Osprey company (An Osprey
100) quite happily with Linux.

You should be able to get a time based input switcher for closed circuit
systems for an inexpensive price from an electronics store (Possibly
Radio Shack, I have not had much experience with retail electronics
stores in the US), this will take 4 or 8 composite video inputs and
switch them every 30 seconds or watever you set it to.  Some may even
merge them into one combined output (EG a 3x3 display).

It is easy to snap jpegs from the capture card with a simple shell
script with the utility v4lctl which comes with the source for xawtv.
