Hello,

When I installed Fedora it found all parts of my computer, except for my
soundcard. So I ran sndconfig and it detected my card as an Intel Corp.
82801EB AC'97 Audio Controller. And when it tries to test the card it
produces this error:

The following error occurred running the modprobe
program:

/lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2140.nptlsmp/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o:
init_module: No such device
/lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2140.nptlsmp/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o:
insmod
/lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2140.nptlsmp/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o
failed
/lib/modules/2.4.22-1.2140.nptlsmp/kernel/drivers/sound/i810_audio.o:
insmod sound-slot-0 failed
======================================================
That indicates that the wrong driver module is being loaded.
Show us output of:
# lspci
(if it's a PCI device)
=====================================================
When I try to insmod the module manually it produces this error:

[root at balrog sound]# /sbin/insmod i810_audio.o
i810_audio.o: unresolved symbol ac97_set_adc_rate_Rsmp_269f98e8
i810_audio.o: unresolved symbol unregister_sound_mixer_Rsmp_7afc9d8a
i810_audio.o: unresolved symbol ac97_alloc_codec_Rsmp_98951e4d
i810_audio.o: unresolved symbol unregister_sound_dsp_Rsmp_cd083b10
i810_audio.o: unresolved symbol ac97_set_dac_rate_Rsmp_d7cbe165
i810_audio.o: unresolved symbol ac97_release_codec_Rsmp_ec27652f
i810_audio.o: unresolved symbol register_sound_dsp_Rsmp_ad3b0891
i810_audio.o: unresolved symbol register_sound_mixer_Rsmp_a321a0d9
i810_audio.o: unresolved symbol ac97_probe_codec_Rsmp_9fc40528
======================================================
Still looks like wrong driver. Maybe it's ac97_codec ?
=====================================================
And an lsmod produces this:

[root at balrog sound]# /sbin/lsmod

I'm running the 2.4.22-1.2140.nptlsmp kernel.

Any idea what the problem might be?

Thanks in advance,

You should tell us more about your hardware.
Is the sound card PCI or ISA?
Is it onboard? or not?

If it is a PCI device, please show us output of:
# lspci

If it is is onboard, show us relative info. from BIOS settings.

If you'll look on the chip you should find useful info printed on it,
send that too. (We may need to do a little more detective work)
