As I've always seen, if a model of a product is highly sucessful, then 
the emphasis is on to do manufacturing cost reductions on it (and some 
loosening of quality with those reductions).  Sometimes the new cost 
reduced unit is sold as a different, cheaper model.  But not always.

Quality is considered too expensive for the world at large.  It goes 
against planned obsolescence.
