rdesktop is cute, and a necessity to access windows servers from linux.  I
have a windows and linux box sitting side by side here at work, and
rdesktop on linux is more responsive than terminal services client on
WinXP.

That said, there is definitely no reason to introduce windows.  Have you
tried tightvnc (and the other low bandwidth variety's) or NX
(www.nomachine.com)?
