There is a gnome applet , I think gnome-randr-applet is the package.  I
don't use it though as I have a Xinerama display, and with Xinerama, the
RANDR extension is not supported.

Has anyone used something like this functionality with xinerama?

It would be cool to have something like the display layout tool you get
with OSX.
