[NTLUG:Discuss] Selective or Full install?

I finally had the time to throw together some hardware for another
Linux system. Latest BIOS is now loaded and I am ready to install
Mandrake 9.2 PP. My general goal is for it to be my main devl system.

What approach do you take in regards to package selection? Do you:
a) use the default install, only selecting a major choices
b) Select EVERYTHING that looks interesting to you

IIRC, 1-2 years ago a friend of mine said that if he didn't install certain
things during the install of the OS, they wouldn't install correctly at a
later time. I have plenty of disk space and would love to tinker with a
lot of the stuff. Any known problems with (b)? Security issues?

The older system will have SQL, Samba, and 1-2 other servers so that
this new system can be taken down for tinkering without affecting the
rest of the family.
