Howdy,
  If you will accept a second hand report, the Siemens USB 802.11b nic
should work fine.  I bought one last weekend at First Saturday.  The
seller has been their for several months.  The nic was $15 and he said
it used the Prism 2.5 chipset and worked on most distros out of the box.
He had not tried SuSE, which is what I have on my laptop.  I bought it
to use at Jasons, where they offer free wireless access.
  As a side note, I asked the manager at Jasons if there were any
restrictions on what programs we could use.  I was thinking about some
places that block IRC, for example.  She responded that you could run
anything that you would not mind a child seeing.  My response was that
it was good of them to try to keep out MS Windows, since I would not
want any child using that. She got the joke and I got a good laugh.  So,
some people outside our community understand.
