Ditto below. Suse 9 installed pretty painlessly last week on my new IBM
Thinkpad X31. I have not yet exercised all the proverbial bells and
whistles, but am still suitably impressed.

I am using Suse 9 on my HP laptop. I also tried Fedora and Mandrake.
Suse 9 worked the best out of the box without needing much
configuration. Specifically, it automatically configured the touchpad
and acpi, something the other two didn't do(although I'm sure that they
would both work on a laptop with a little work). Suse was easiest for
me and required the least work.
