Well I can't speak to the USB support side of the kernel but....

I wanted to use my headset with the telephone AND my PC and I found USB
wouldn't work in the that configuration.

So...

I use:

- Plantronics $35 Audio 90

- "cute little box" call the Sound Switcher ($25 just google around for it)

And of course Teamspeak (linux client and server)...

I stayed away from the USB stuff- I just needed analog audio.
