I'm confused... can you tell us again what the exact
problem is and use some sort of machine names. For example...
you said you tried 'service iptables stop'... did you do that
on the server ( that is blocking port 22 ) or on your client
where you are trying to connect to the server? If you ran
'service iptables stop' ( and iptables -L -n ) on the
server... how are you connecting... ( locally on the
keyboard or remotely via telnet )
Is it just port 22 that is blocked on the server... i.e. do
port 80, 21, etc work or did you just try port 22?
tracert and ping use ICMP. You can block ICMP and prevent
traceroute and ping so if they don't work... that doesn't
really tell you if it's broke or what. Also... some of
your ISP Gateway servers may block ICMP to your machine.
If you are on the server ( that is blocking port 22 ) and
your on the local keyboard, I assume that you've verified
that you have a valid ip address and can get out of your
network... you're able to ping www.yahoo.com and what not.
Just want to make sure that were not missing something
important.
