[NTLUG:Discuss] SuSe 9.0 & Dell install help

I have tried several time to install Suse 9.0 pro on a Dell Dimension 2400
with LCD monitor and cannot figure out how to get anything but 640x480, 16 
bit resolution.

During initial boot from the CD and all through the install process it is 
in 1024x768 resolution, but during the final configurations it does not 
recognize monitor ID: DELA005.  I can set all the parameters in SaX2 but 
when I test the configuration I always get a 'X server test failed':  no 
video bios modes for chosen depth, screens(s) found, none have a usable 
configuration

Where and how do I manually edit the config files to get 1024x768 screen 
resolution?

The monitor is a Dell E151FP, H(304mm),V(228mm),H scan range 31Khz to 60 
Khz V scan range 56Hz to 75Hx, Optimal preset resolution, 1024c768 @ 60Hz.
