Well, something thinks your routes are suboptimal and is telling your
machine a different route would be better.

I assume you're trying to ping from "test server?"  Then I imagine
"firewall server" sees that "test server" and "OpenVPN server" are on the
same subnet and is advising a more direct route (i.e. "Why are you
bothering me with this @*#&, test-server?  Why not go there yourself?").

Of course, you'd kind of need to make "test server" a VPN client if you
want it to talk directly to "OpenVPN server" and get to the VPN-routed
subnet behind it.  But "firewall server" probably doesn't realize that.
