I have reached my maximum frustration level (almost) because I can't get my
wireless card to work. I am running a fully updated version (all the latest
rpms from dag and freshrpms apt repositories plus KDE 3.2.1 from god knows
where) of FC1 on a Dell Latitude C840. All was well until several weeks ago
when my aged Linksys WPC11 v.0, which had done yoeman service since RH 7.3,
gave up the ghost.
I went out and bought a WPC11 v4 only to find out that it was incompatible but
fortunately found out that WPC11 v3 is supposed to be compatible. Linksys
was delighted to replace my v4 with a v3 but, after many attempts, I cannot
get it to work. At this point my system will not even recognize the card (it
won't beep when the card is inserted or light up the status lights which it
was doing when I started), which I don't understand since the pcmcia script
is being loaded at start up. In fact it won't recognize my pcmcia modem
either so I've obviously hosed my pcmcia setup. I've tried installing and
using wlan (which has got to be the most obtuse thing ever invented).
Is the WPC11 v3 actually compatible with Linux or should I get another card
(if so which one)? How can I repair my pcmcia configuration? How can I
configure my WPC11 for my system (presuming it is compatible)?
