What patches?  According to the "radeon" driver in X.org 6.7.0:  
  http://freedesktop.org/~xorg/X11R6.7.0/doc/radeon.4.html  

The RV280 GPU (Radeon 9200) series is fully supported.

Or were you talking 3D?  If so, I know ATI has _dropped_ support
for Freedomware driver development with the R300 series, and I
was pretty sure the latter R200-series GPUs were not supported.

If you mean ATI's binary-only drivers, I have not used them.
So I can't advise you there.
