Here are my 2 cents. I was in high end Audio Video retailing for over 20
years, mostly spent in small operations, one or two stores. The thing
that made me get out was the fact that most consumers took on the
attitude that price was more important than product and service. Btu
when the consumer had problems with the product that they purchased at a
“discounter” they would call shops like ours to get answers to their
questions. We had the attitude that if they didn’t purchase it from us
there was no need in assisting them. It was a cruel reality for most,
much gnashing of teeth, but that is how it was done.
Now, when I hear someone complaining about a product that was purchased
at one of the mass merchandisers I take the attitude of you should have
know that where you were buying it has nothing but box movers and
clerks, don’t expect good customer service and or knowledgeable sales
people. If I am going to purchase something I know nothing about I will
either go to an independent retailer where I know that I will get proper
answers to my questions. Or research it to the best of my ability and
purchase it at a “discounter”, but of course expecting no level of
customer support at all.
Thanks
Jim
