All,
I finally found a single CD distro that's current enough to find my
EAX101 10/100 PCMCIA nic without my having to edit the PCMCIA database.
Well, to be honest - it's the only distro that supported all my hardware
without intervention, period. Anyway, it's an artsy distro with a lot of
customization and it fits on my 3gig hardisk and runs on my amd k62-333
compaq presario 1245 laptop with zero tweakage.
Enough about that, has anyone else used this distro? What's your
experience been?
Can y'all recommend any other good single CD distros?
I had a heck of a time finding any distros that:
1. When installed, fit on a 2.9 gig partition leaving at least a few
hundred megs of free space (blag left about 700megs).
2. Were modern enough to support the nic.
3. Had font smoothing :)
4. Weren't based on 686+ - supported the legacy hardware in my presario
(everything but the nic)
5. Weren't live CD's or network installers masquerading as distributions
- aka Knoppix, Suse FTP and co.
Oh, of course it comes with Mozilla and Abi Word - so much for the 700
megs - I had to download Firefox, Thunderbird and OpenOffice.org. I
suppose I could hunt down and eliminate DiskhogZilla to reclaim some of
that space, but I'm too lazy and I don't really need it yet.
Blag's a UK distro - the Brighton Linux Action Group:

Screenshots (if you wanna see what I mean by artsy - the entire distro
is cusomized with an offbeat artistic tone):
