You're right, 512k is the max for a stripe, and I also looked at my HP-UX 
boxes at work, and it's the same thing.  Is there any reason in particular 
that you have to have a 1024k stripe?

As to your second question, you can use the lvremove command to remove a 
logical volume.

Oracle recommends a 1024k stripesize scheme on a lv for data access speed
optimization.  Their documentation wasn't Redhat specific.

It's not like I have a lot of drives to stripe across, so I am not certain
how much difference it would make anyway.  Looks like 512k stripe will do
just fine... :>
