5-4-3 rule... no... this was for when you used bnc cables and daisy
chained stuff. Modern ( or semi modern ) switches and hubs have
on-board memory/logic to take care of the broadcast and timing
issues the 5-4-3 rule addressed.

don't know about what rules to use now... I know the 10mbit swith
that servers my office floor runs more like a 56k modem sometime.
