Based on the amount of responses, I would say that there was significant 
interest.  I was trying to be nice *and* not impact list traffic.  But 
someone always has to bitch.

I've always felt that LUG list members "friends I haven't met yet."  Every 
time I've gone to a LUG function in other cities I've walked away with great 
contacts and people I stay in touch with.

I think your definition of "unnecessary list traffic" and mine are probably 
different.
