It's more than likely black, but depends on what you've been printing.
 As far as getting the printer to tell you without accessing or using
the software they provide, [which is probably designed to run on  MS
Windows or Mac only], good luck. If you find out, let me know, I have
an Epson printer too.

This is an issue that should be taken up with Epson [I think], and if
enough of us contact them and ask for Linux software, maybe,
_just_maybe_, they'll try and provide it with future products.
