I don't think MS Office even reads/writes various Works formats.
At least it did not at all in earlier versions.
MS Works is designed for someone who doesn't exchange documents.
It is also designed for others to push them to upgrade to MS Office.
Simple market and profit-driven bundling agenda for OEMs who won't
bundle MS Office.

P.S. Nothing pisses me off more to see an IT magazine make an analogy
of the features of StarOffice/OpenOffice.org to MS Works. Nothing could
be further from the truth, and StarOffice/OpenOffice.org is not MS
Office 97 equivalent technology either.
