again thanks for the responses i have found them most helpful.

i have written a simple prog to capture serial input.  but what
im sending on the windows side insnt showing up on the linux
size and im thinking i have foobard the port settings.
my thought is that the port settings should be the same.
correct?

does it make sense to ask the port on the windows side ... hey
mr com port how are you currently being used.
