ok i am farther down the line
a bit.

i bought the book linux unwired and then started with a clean gentoo system
with a vanilla kernel i.e. i download the kernel sources 2.4.27 and build
them
accourding to the instructions on page 29 of the wireless book.
then i emerged pcmcia-cs. actually i had done this some time ago.

i found that if i ran cardmgr and cardctl ident i would get the following

product info: " ", "IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN/PC Card", ""
manfid: 0xd601, 0x0005
function: 6 (network)

then i read a bit more and found that i could load a kernel module/driver
for the card i have. (zcom XI-325)
ok im thrilled but now what i can identify that i have inserted a card
with the cardmrg deamon and load a drive ... what next i need to get
all the infrastruction to do wireless work. some how bind a device name
wlan0 to module orinoc_cs (if that is right way to say it).

jim.
