Well, I'll toss out a recommendation for a 802.11g notebook adapter with 
a Prism chipset.  I use a Netgear WG-511AN (Note, the WG-511T is also 
out there, but it does not have the Prism chipset), and it runs very 
nicely for me.  The adapter's firmware is uploaded on startup to the 
card via hotplug/wireless tools and prism54x drivers (Even though the 
firmware is for Windows Systems, it uploads and works very well with 
Linux).  I run my WLAN adapter with a 128-bit Encryption Key (Limit for 
Netgear Routers) and Encrypted/Managed Connections.  I'm waiting for the 
Prism54x people to make WAP work on the adapter as well.
