Howdy,
  There may be something wrong with your system setup.  If you don't
have too much invested yet, I think I would reinstall.
 One possibility is that you are using SuSE 9.0 Personal, instead of
professional.  If so, lots of things are missing, because SuSE scoped
out the personal user as one who did not need a lot of packages.  If you
are using SuSE 9.0 Personal, I suggest stopping and using the
Professional edition.  If you don't have the SuSE Professional CDs, and
have a good internet connection, you can install SuSE 9.0 or 91. from
SuSE mirrors for free.  The 9.0 version is pretty much everything that
was included with Professional.  The 9.1 version seems to be everything
that was included with Professional.  Version 9.2 should be available
for free next month.
 If you are using the Professional edition, your sources are wrong.  If
you install from CDs, spamassassin is on CD 4 and shows up fine on this
SuSE 9.0 system as an installable program in Yast2.  I just verified
it.  If it is not available on your system, then something is wrong.
