Art, I see a very similar behavior during boot of my Slackware 9.1 system.
I also have the monitor click off & on every so often accompanied by what
sounds like a relay. I suspect either the monitor is going bad or the power
mgmt software is faulty. I have not researched it as I've been assuming the
former.
