[NTLUG:Discuss] Looking for decent broadband service

Hey everyone,

I want to ask what people on this list would recommend for reasonably
priced broadband service that works OK with Linux. I am currently using
Comcast, but I'm having Internet connection reliability issues when the
cable is split to provide tv for other rooms in the house. However, when
the line is not split the cable modem seems to work just fine. Comcast
has not been able to fix the problem. I could live without tv, but I
have to get the tv service from Comcast in order to keep the price for
Internet service to stay reasonable. But why should I pay for TV
service that I can't use without disrupting Internet service? So, I 'm
considering leaving Comcast for Verizon DSL service. Unfortunately,
I don't know much about the cost or reliability of dsl versus cable.
I also don't know how well dsl works with Linux. Can anyone give me
any tips? Also, is it true that you have live a certain distance from
the telco switching station to get dsl?

TIA,

Brian
