[NTLUG:Discuss] sound card server?

I know that there are hardware solutions for what I'm looking for, but I
want
to know if there are any sofware solutions......

I have multiple PCs. I'd like to use one PC that has a sound card and
speakers 
to act as a sound card server. I.E. I play an MP3 or AVI Video on boxA,
the 
sound is sent to boxB and played on it's sound card and speakers. 

Once final 'catch'... boxB is a evil-windows box.  ( My kids games only
play on evil-windows ) 

So... I'd like to have my kids evil-windows box be the sound server for
my 
linux box when I play MP3s or videos on it. 

Is this possible?
