I typed "apt-get install alexandria". Apt took 2 minutes to download
the package and the dozen or so dependencies I didn't already have. Apt
took another 30 seconds to unpack and install the packages. Then I
typed "alexandria", clicked the mouse once, entered an ISBN code, and
had my first entry, including the photo of the book cover and the other
material from Amazon. It looks like a cool program.

Dependency problems of the sort you describe are what led me a couple of
years ago to move to Debian.
