[you didn't say, but..] Your router's [more than likely] running DHCP
[since they do that by default] and if you'll just ignore the DHCP
server and set static IP addresses to the clients, you'll have static
IP addresses you can enter into your hosts file(s).  Or just use those
IP addresses as needed.
(It's probably in the 192.168.1.x network, so just pick something in
the 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.1.254  range.)

Alternately:
Those two computers can actually "see" each other and talk to each
other now, it's just that _you_ are not aware of the IP address
assignments.  You could also just identify the other PC and use that
IP address to "talk" to it.  An easy way to do that is:
# ping -b 192.168.1.0
