One thing I've been wanting to try is to keep OS/X on the internal 
drive and install Yellow Dog to an external FW drive.  OS/X allows 
booting from other devices (hold the Option key while booting.)  If you 
get a chance to try anything out, please let the list know.

BTW, for more info on other startup shortcuts, open the Finder Help and 
search for "Shortcuts for starting up" which includes booting OS/X into 
single user mode.

Lastly, check out the January 2005 issue of Mac Addict.  Apparently, 
there's a whole section on using FLOSS for the Mac, including 
installing fink (Macs wrapper around apt).
