Howdy,
  There are several Mac users here.  I have used Yellow Dog for a while
on a PowerMac 7500.  It does pretty well, for an Old World Mac.  You
won't have to deal with any of those problems.  Maybe problems is too
strong, but it is inconvenient at best.  With an Old World mac, you have
to boot OS8 every time you run and then manually(on most) run a program
to switch over to Linux.
