I have been running Debian-powerpc on various Mac's since 1997, starting
with an LC III. My current machine is a Dual 1.0 Ghz G4. For most of any
"MacOS X" purposes I have, I use Mac-on-Linux - an open source
"equivalent" to VMware on x86. Much like VMware, it runs a virtual
machine that can use a separate partition or a "virtual" partition.

In terms of booting, my machine is set up to allow booting from "linux",
MacOS X, CD/DVD, or OpenFirmware. If you select Linux, then I have the
option of booting Debian or Yellowdog (and, soon, Mandrake).
