[NTLUG:Discuss] Dual Boot using QTParted

I'm attempting to install SimplyMepis onto my notebook hd that has xp 
installed on it.  When I attempted to run QTParted  it shows 
hda1(7.11GB) where xp is installed.  When I right click the free space 
QTParted does not alllow me to create another partition.  Total space on 
hd is 55.89GB.  Any links and/or suggestions from the group would be 
very much appreciated?  Google and Mepis.org is not helping.
