Yes - but the driver fields interrupts, it's concievable that it
might lock out the keyboard interrupt - which would result in
the keyboard input buffer filling up - which certainly generates
a 'beep' if you do it (for example) when the PC is in the early stages
of booting.
It's not beyond the realms of possibility...which is why it's a major
pain that the nVidia and ATI graphics drivers are closed-source.
