Already done!

That reduces the problem to a VERY minor annoyance - but I'm still anxious
to find out what the underlying problem is.

Yeah - indeed.  It didn't do it to me for three solid days - and I'd
almost convinced myself it had 'gone away' - but then it did it again.

It's a sufficiently rare event to make testing things out very painful.

People have suggested changing video drivers (for example) - but the
only reason I upgraded to SuSE 9.1 in the first place was to get the
new nVidia OpenGL drivers that support the OpenGL Shader Language stuff.

I can't use the computer for anything significant without the latest
drivers.
