OK - I'll bite!   What does that do and why am I removing it?
'man bootparam' doesn't mention it.

The /boot/grub/menu.1st file that SuSE 9.1 creates says (amongst other things):

title Linux
     kernel (hd0,0)/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda3 vga=0x31a splash=silent desktop
                            resume=/dev/hda2 showopts

????
