I too like gkrellm.  Another flashy alternative is the many karamba
based apps... go to http://kde-look.org and go to their Karamba
section... the vast majority are karamba apps that do what you
are wanting (note: often times you have to tweak the python code
to match your system)... but they end up looking really sharp.
