I would appreciate handholding help finding and installing a video
driver for
my setup.

I'm running XP on one disk and Redhat 8.0 on the other. Trouble is, at
the time
I bought this system there was no video driver for Redhat. The video is
set to
SVGA, which is awful, barely usable.

The problem seems to be the integrated video chip Intel 82845G on the
motherboard,
Intel 845GLLY. Doing several googles I could find no real answers. It
seems only
Intel and Microsoft know how to program this video chip.

Intel suggests getting the VESA driver from Xfree86, which sounds like
Intel has
no intentions of providing a driver, or info for a driver.

However, I might be out of date.

The audio chip on this motherboard enjoys a similar problem, that is,
close
Intel/Microsoft cooperation shutting out the rest of the world.

Again, I might be out of date.

At a minimum, I would like help getting the VESA driver and trying it.
Maybe by
now Redhat has the driver(s) in 9.0. If so, I wouldn't mind upgrading.
Last I
looked, this is NOT a simple problem. Or Suse, I'm not fussy, although I
would
want to keep GRUB and Gnome.

I do not feel confident rebuilding a kernel, so I would like somebody
sitting
with me directing and/or doing. Bobby suggested a beer and pizza as a
reward.

Any takers?
