Howdy,
It won't be as simple as other messages have implied. The problem is
the version of Xfree86 that is used with RedHat 8. It was not RedHat
mistake, as Xfree86 could not support the 845 video at that time. The
necessary support came in with Xfree86, ver 4.3. I had an 845 at the
time, and researched it then. I am a little fuzzy on the exact cause,
but it was something to do with the size of the bios on the 845. It was
not just that you needed a newer video driver, but that X itself did not
have the infrastructure for your video chipset. The bottom line is that
you need to update to a newer distribution, or figure out how to
retrofit a modern X to your system. It would be buch easier to update
your distribution unless you have some dependency on RedHat 8.
