That is true. Acrobat reader has supported pdfs and electronic forms for some
time now (specified fields are editable).
the advantage of pdf is consistent display, not specifically to be print ready.
postscript is a print ready file format, portable document format is meant to
be displayed anywhere.
as for linux readers that support all pdf features, I guess adobe hasn't been
real dedicated to the portable so much as the document format.
