Ever since I tried TurboTax years ago - filling in all the data, trying to
submit it and instead crashing - losing hours of work, I vowed never again.
I have been using Open Tax Solver (opentaxsolver.sf.net) since.  I know it
seems hopelessly simple (vi'ing a text file?!) but it's always worked
perfectly for me, and generates the filled in IRS pdf forms you're asking
about.
