Yesterday, I was checking out Chandler (the PIM in development by the 
OSAF http://osafoundation.org) which appears to be heavily webdav 
oriented.  They mention that you can get a free, limited use, webdav 
account at http://www.sharemation.com/.  It might be useful to you if 
you want to try out webdav without setting up your own server.

OTOH, setting up a webdav server is not really that hard.
