You know, after I sent out that email, I started thinking that since
this was fedora, maybe they had a fedora-release rpm and sure enough, I
found it. I still couldn't install it though because when I attempted
the upgrade, I got a complaint that initscripts needed
redhat-release...so i attempted to upgrade initscripts along with the
fedora-release and got an error that the file I was trying to upgrade
was an older package than the one install. After checking the man page
for rpm (cuz I KNEW there was a way to downgrade a package with
rpm...just didn't know how), I used the --oldpackage argument, did an
rpm -Uvh --oldpackage on the initscripts file and the fedora-release at
the same time...voila. No more problem. Also, on the splash screens,
the fedora-logos package was not installed and as long as the box
thought it was still a RH9 release, it wouldn't install that either
saying it conflicted with the RH9 version. After upgrading the
fedora-release, I upgraded to the fedora-logos rpm and now the splash
screens match also. WeeHeeeee! I'm sure there's still so much more
wrong with this box I have yet to find, but, for now, there's joy in the
Dahl household. At least, until I attempt the upgrade to FC3. :) But
now I know what to do if the upgrade leaves it still thinking it's FC1.
Thanks for all the help guys.
Wayne
