> What is the fascination with dvd viewing on Linux...
I've never had any problem viewing, ripping, converting dvd's or what not
on linux. In fact, I have watched my windows-crippled friends struggle and
fail trying to do the same thing on windows what was painless for me. I'm
guessing you missed a nice howto or your distribution made it difficult or
what???
I'm glad the video capture thing works for you, but the video quality
suffers and the whole digital surround-sound thing is lost.
Check out the perl-Video-DVDRip package. I'm sure if you satisfy the
dependencies it will work for you. I don't see how it could get any easier
- all push-button/tabs/menu selection simplicity. I convert dvd's to
xvid/ac3 on 1 or 2 cd's and the quality is pretty much indistinguishable
from the original played back thru my HTPC to my HDTV.
Hint: I also pull down mpeg4 movies from the internet and play them back on
my HTPC at near-dvd quality. It's a Brave New World the "entertainment
moghuls" have so far refused to face.
