I can ping google.com and I get and ip address. There are several
replies, but they are a bit slow. VMNET8 is set to 192.168.16.0. I
can mount a host machine share from linux using 192.168.16.1 and it
works fine. I turned the firewall in linux off.
Thanks for your responses. I am not home to try your suggestions, but
I will try them. I do think the issue, though, is that I don't know
how to get VMWare to go through the verzion "dial-up" connection. In
any case, I will look at your suggestions and examine this in more
detail. I also think I am going to try to connect to putty and see if
I can ssh from the windows machine to make sure that my isp makes that
port available.
