[NTLUG:Discuss] qpopper error

After a rare restart of my Suse 9.0 mail server, qpopper returns "The 
USER command did not succeed. Mail server mail.wrennest.com responded: 
Unknown AUTHORIZATION state command". This happens from all PCs on the 
internal (IPCOP green) LAN. The pop3 server is on the red zone of an 
IPCOP firewall/router. The router has not been touched.

Nothing pertinent in /var/log/messages or any other log I could think of.

I need help with the error to understand what I may have broken with the 
reboot.
