For Firefox, install the Web Developer extension:

https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?application=firefox&id=60
Once installed, you can go to Tools -> Web Developer -> Resize ->
Custom Size and input the size you need. An 800x600 option is also
there by default (at least in my version .8). There are options to
show the current browser size in the title bar. I think this should
do pretty much what you are looking for. Hope it helps.
