Might check out another little script called popaccess it allows for pop
authentication before relaying. Also if you feel adventurous there are a
few tutorials on getting postfix up and running with tells and
authentication.

Thanks for all the reply's.
The answer turned out to be quite simple. There is a file in /etc/mail
called "relay-domains". By default, Sendmail adds each new domain that
you set up to this file. There is some way that you can disable its
use, but I think it is more than just a change in a config file. So the
simplest way for me was to just comment out (or delete) the domain names
from this relay-domains file.
The current version of Sendmail is said to have this "feature" turned
off by default.
