Not sure which 'Monitor' you're using..but see if you can turn the
'Load' monitor on - it'll tell the story for you.  Even though the CPU
is not engaged to move the data, there's a HUGH amount of load on the
system to request/store/interrupt/sent/write/crc-check/etc data between
the devices....and you'll see the Load on the system rise to around
100%.
